What is Spray Foam?

Spray Foam insulation comes in two separate containers and is referred to as "A"side and "B" side containers. The A-side contains polyurethane made from methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and the B-side polymeric methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (pMDI) is a mixture of polyol resins, fire-retardants, surfactants and catalysts. These two components are blended during the application process. When these two chemicals are mixed, an expansion starts to form when exposed to heat, instantly expanding to form insulation. Once mixed the curing process begins and spray foam insulation is born. Other chemicals present in spray foam insulation are organic compounds derived from petroleum extracts. Spray foam is environmentally safe and class one fire-rated and does not retain water. |
